Dear Families
It has been a very focussed and positive term! I thank you all for supporting your children to be the best they can be, living up to our vision of Aim High: aspire, learn, achieve. School is the best place for your children and it is where bright and positive futures start. Every school day matters for learning and friendships.
At MHPS we are committed to building positive relationships and encouraging a sense of belonging with all members of our school community, and sincerely thank you for your willingness to connect with us. When staff and families work respectfully in partnership, academic and wellbeing outcomes for your children increase.
I wish you a happy and safe term break, and look forward to reconnecting in Term 2.
Sharon
Junior Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament
Well done to our Junior Boys and Junior Girls Basketball teams on their wonderful performance on the weekend.
Congratulations to our Junior Girls who played in Division 3. Our girls improved in every game, and displayed excellent teamwork and sportsmanship. The smiles on their faces remained throughout the tournament, despite playing against some tough opposition. We are so proud of you all!
Congratulations to our Junior Boys team who played in Division 3. There were some great games and we came away winning all four - two games by just one point! The boys listened carefully to instructions, improved in every game and displayed excellent teamwork. Well done boys!
Thank you very much to Mrs Maney for your commitment to the Junior Girls Team and for the encouraging way you coached. Thank you also to our parents for your wonderful support at the tournament, and thank you to the many staff who came along and cheered loudly for our teams.
Sharon (Junior Boys Coach)

Fissure Sealant and Fluoride Varnish Program
OHST are focusing the program on children in Kindergarten, Prep, and Years 1, 2, 6 and 7. The treatments provided will be non-invasive and involve the placement of fissure sealants and the application of fluoride varnish. Any children identified as requiring further treatment will be offered an appointment at their nearest community dental clinic.
Year 6 Excursion to Launceston Church Grammar School
Students in Year 6 have been offered the opportunity to take part in the launch of Tasmanian Youth Week at the Launceston Church Grammar School on Thursday 10 April.
This experience will involve a morning of fun activities at LCGS. Students will walk across to the LCGS Senior Campus at 9:00am and return to MHPS at 1:30pm.
In the week prior to this excursion, Year 6 students have had the opportunity to design and create a t-shirt which they will wear to the event over their uniform.
Students will need recess, lunch and a drink on this day as they will not be able to access the canteen. Students will be supervised on this excursion by the Year 5/6 teachers.
5-6 Team
On Friday 11 April, Year 1-2 classes will be watching the movie Happy Feet (Rated G). In the world of the emperor penguins who find their soul mates through song, a penguin is born who cannot sing. But he can tap dance something fierce!
On Friday 11 April, students from Years 3-6 will be watching the movie, Ratatouille (Rated PG). The story follows a young rat named Remy, who dreams of becoming a chef at a famous Paris restaurant. He tries to achieve his goal by forming an unlikely alliance with the restaurant's garbage boy Alfredo Linguini.
Due to the high number of students accessing Breakfast Club (39 students on one day is our record!), we ask that parents and carers say goodbye at the door. A member of the Leadership Team is present to support and supervise students.
The Buzz will be starting a new group of beginners in Term 2.
What is The Buzz?
- The Buzz is a beginner brass band facilitated by volunteer members of the City Of Launceston RSL Band.
- Instruments on offer are cornet, trombone, trombone mini and euphonium. All learner instruments are made of plastic and are ideal for children.
- The Buzz lessons are weekly on a Thursday afternoon from 3:10 pm - 4:00 pm. Lessons take place in the school PAC. Students will need to be collected from the PAC at 4:00 pm.
- There is no charge for lessons, instrument hire or book hire. We do expect that all students will take care of borrowed instruments and books and be responsible for bringing them to school on Thursdays.
Learning any musical instrument is a challenge and requires patience, persistence, a positive attitude and plenty of practice. Learning a brass instrument has the added challenge of producing a sound (a buzz). Students who join The Buzz need to be prepared to practise at home in order to make progress on their instrument.
If your child is interested in joining The Buzz they can see Mrs Partridge for more information. You can also email Mrs Partridge at cherie.partridge@decyp.tas.gov.au if you have any queries.
All students from Year 4, 5 and 6 will be visiting the University of Tasmania (Newnham Campus) to work with the Centre for Human Movement pre-service teachers. Our students will participate in a variety of sporting activities over the next three weeks, for one-hour sessions. The students will be walking to UTAS and busing back to MHPS if the weather is fine. Buses will be provided both ways if it rains.
