Under perfect winter skies our school proudly took part in the 2025 LSSSA Cross Country Carnival. The afternoon conditions couldn’t have been better for running, and our 46 students made the most of it, showing resilience, enthusiasm, and a high degree of effort.
Although we finished fifth out of the five participating schools, the result doesn’t tell the full story. Our students demonstrated incredible perseverance and sportsmanship, tackling a challenging course with courage and commitment.
It was fantastic to see so many of our students not only participating but also cheering on their peers with energy and encouragement. Their presence and positivity helped create a strong sense of team spirit that carried us through the event.
Thank you to Mr Geale and Mrs Partridge for their leadership and organisation in taking the team to the carnival. Their efforts ensured everything ran smoothly and that our students were well-prepared and supported. We also extend our thanks to our Pre-Service teachers Miss Morrisby and Mr Bennett, who played a vital role in supporting our runners on the day. Their encouragement and assistance were greatly appreciated by both staff and students.
While we may not have taken home a top placing, we left the carnival with something even more valuable: pride in our effort, strength in our unity, and memories of a day filled with determination and joy.
Congratulations to all our runners - you represented our school so well. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event!

Mid-year Learning Conversations 2025
At MHPS families are valued members of the school community and play an important role in their child’s learning. There is a strong culture of mutual trust, and parents and carers and staff work in partnership to support student learning and well-being.
In June we are providing another opportunity for all parents and carers to have a face-to-face conversation with your child's teacher.
The Prep to Year 6 conversations will this time include your child. These Mid-year Learning Conversations will focus on progress, achievement and strategies for improvement, with your child present and participating in the conversation. This format will provide a great opportunity to celebrate progress and success, and to set goals for the remainder of the year. Student involvement encourages them to take responsibility for their learning and truly know that some of the most significant people in their lives are working together to support their learning and well-being.
Our Kindergarten students are not required to be present for the mid-year meeting. The conversation between parents/carers and teachers will focus on the progress your child has made towards achieving the markers on the Kindergarten Development Check. During the meeting you will have the opportunity to ask any questions and share information about your child.
Our Prep - Year 6 Mid-year Conversations commence on Tuesday 17 June and finish on Wednesday 25 June.
Our Kindergarten Mid-year Conversations commence on Tuesday 17 June and finish on Thursday 26 June.
A letter containing details you need to know, a preference sheet for dates and times, and an agenda where you can record anything you would like to discuss has been sent home. Please return the preference sheet and agenda as soon as possible. It is definitely not too late to make a time.
Our Specialist Teachers and members of the Leadership Team will be available to support families with childcare for school-age siblings whilst the Mid-year Conversations are happening. Childcare will be available in the Performing Arts Centre.
In line with Department for Education, Children and Young People requirements, a summative report will also be provided this term for students in Years 1 - 6, assessed against the Australian Curriculum using a nine point scale in English, Maths and Science. For students whose learning is not able to be assessed against the Australian Curriculum, a summative report of learning achievement against learning plan goals will be provided. Evidence of Learning will also be included with the Mid-year Report for the following curriculum areas and year groups:
- Health and Physical Education - Year 1, Year 2 and Year 6
- Information Communcation Technology (ICT) - Year 1 and Year 2
- Music - Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4
Mid-year Reports go home on Friday 13 June.

Last Wednesday we held a Pyjama Day to raise funds for the local Launceston charity Strike It Out Inc., who provide meals, food packages and emergency support and supplies to people in need.
It was fabulous to see so many people snuggled up in their PJ’s on a chilly winter’s day! Together we raised over $400 for this charity. Thank you to everyone who participated and to those who donated a gold coin - an amazing effort!

At lunchtime on Thursday 12 June there will be a Library Book Sale in the Quadrangle. Cohorts will attend at different times to allow all students enough space to select their favourite books.
Year 1 - 2 classes 1:05pm -1:25pm
Year 3 - 6 classes 1:25pm -1:45pm
Each book will only cost 20c! Students may purchase as many books as they like, so a bag to carry them home would be helpful.

We are hoping that any uniform items that your children have outgrown might be donated to school. These come in very handy when students have accidents, get wet or get muddy!
